Abstract
Vitamin D has gone from an “extremely unsafe” nutrient to one of the most researched and therapeutically used nutrients in the past thirty years. Having witnessed this transformation and taught about Vitamin D in biochemistry, pharmacology, and clinical medicine courses, Dr. Anderson has a unique perspective on the topic. This presentation will outline the physiology, pharmacology, and clinical management of this critical hormone / nutrient. Laboratory evaluation, effectors of metabolic dysfunction, and assessment will be discussed. Co-nutrients such as Vitamin-K will also be discussed. Dosing and administration of Vitamin D forms in oral, IM, and IV routes will be included as well.
Objectives:
- Define the biochemistry and physiology of Vitamin D
 - Describe the various receptor / physiological activities of Vitamin D
- Bone metabolism
 - Hormonal balance
 - Immune balance

 - Describe the synergy of Vitamin K and D
 - Describe the laboratory testing of 25 versus 1,25 forms of Vitamin D
 - Describe pathological effectors causing elevations or depressions in 25 or 1,25 forms
 - Define dosing, administration, and reevaluation guidelines:
- Oral
 - IM
 - IV
