ORAL CHELATION SIDE EFFECTS Cont.

ORAL CHELATION SIDE EFFECTS – KIDNEY PAIN and VERTIGO:

Pt experiencing negative effects of chelation- starting 8 days after second round of oral DMSA chelation. 3 day on 11 day off.

Pt compliant with- saunas, hydration, mineral replenishment, GSH precursors, Castor Oil Packs, light exercise, good diet, methyl B vits, and MV/MIN IV + GSH once weekly.

CBC and CMP unremarkable – ran stat during the exacerbation

Vertigo worse upon waking (he says head feels like pulsating sponge also worse talking a lot)

Nausea daily- unable to digest proteins (was recommended to juice and do mod protein high fat shake 1-2 meals per day)

I am concerned the Sx’s have continued for almost one week. Upon exam today his kidneys were tender during kidney punch test. UA = unremarkable.

Pt was exposed to neurotoxins and several vaccinations in gulf war. Sx’s initially – unable to sit at rest continuous full body “restless leg”

ANSWERS:

You are already covering the depuration aspects of the detox protocol. In case it is one of those “liberated metal” causes I usually run another RBC Mag + ionized Ca++ / and whole blood Pb/Hg/As/AL… If any metals are elevated you have to adjust the chelator dose. …

ANSWERS:

If Aluminum shoots up (which causes these Sx) I add 1-2 grams Malic Acid daily which works quickly. If Ca/Mg are off I do a few IV’s as indicated. The gulf war folks (any era) also have a shit ton of chemicals liberated (often) during chelation – and this can increase the need for Phase1-2-3 support, as well as other support. Often this looks like a cyclic detox (instead of a 3-4 “on” / 10-11 “off” program). That means shorter bursts of time on and off the oral chelators, as well as breaks for support of cell membranes, ReDox etc. Get the labs and hit me back. (With the Ki pain I’d keep some imaging on the list of to-do’s).
